On page 33 of the spring (paper) edition, the author suggests that gardeners use coir as a substitute for Ontario, or Canadian, peat. My goodness. So more Indonesian rainforest, for example, should be destroyed for the planting of yet more coconut trees, for their coir, and oil, and whatever else we humans want? I think Jade Prévost-Manuel surely blundered with that odd suggestion.

I’ve been avoiding all palm oil for a few years now, if it can be helped. Others may appreciate knowing about this massive threat to the Earth’s rainforests and what they can do to avoid it.
