Re: “Volunteer Salamander Surveys” (Summer 2017). Teaching at a Forest and nature school, we often search for salamanders. On our last day of classes before being forced to close by government mandate, we found a red-backed salamander! That same week my husband and I found a vernal pool filled with several egg sacs at McCrae Lake and we have been watching it since April 8th. We visited on Earth Day and have seen the eggs progress! I have been learning more about these tiny beings since these field discoveries and was intrigued by the wooden board placement for their habitat and study. I was excited to learn that red backs lay eggs on land instead of water!
